Summary
Trade All My Tomorrows is the third episode of Star Trek: Timequake, introducing the USS Abyssinia and its crew, led by Captain J'Sepp Kallach. The Abyssinia encounters the temporal anomaly, last seen at Gliese IV (To Boldly Go), nearby the abandoned Cardassian station Empok Nor. A destroyed Vulcan science vessel and a time distortion event all lead to a tense standoff with two Cardassian warships.
Act I
The Abyssinia is docked at Deep Space Nine, receiving the last of its extensive refits and a new mission to patrol the Cardassian border and respond to distress signals in case of Dominion incursions from the Bajoran Wormhole. Chief O'Brien works to finish the upgrades aboard the Abyssinia along with Chief Engineer Rokul. Meanwhile, Captain Kalach and Commander Liamed Duzan take part in a discussion with Commander Sisko about the capabilities of the Founders. Dr. Shuuri and Lt Cmdr Niera Tir, aboard Deep Space Nine, work to gather information that may be useful for them in their coming assignments as well. Shuuri inquires with Dr. Bashir about the weapons utilized by the Dominion, and any way to counter their unique anti-coagulant effects. Niera Tir is in Quark's Bar fishing for information on Cardassian battle tactics from some grizzled old Bajoran resistance fighters.
Following the long, tense meeting with Sisko, Commander Duzan heads to Deep Space Nine to check how her empathic abilities might function around Constable Odo. Finding that she cannot read him, she invites him to dinner. He politely declines, a bit embarrassed with himself for responding rather rudely at first, and excuses himself to revert to his liquid form for a time.
The crew is suddenly called back to the Abyssinia, which is about to depart for the Trivas system to respond to a distress signal from a Vulcan science vessel which had been on its way to Deep Space Nine to study the wormhole.
Act II
Arriving at Empok Nor, the Abyssinia finds wreckage consistent with the Vulcan ship. The vessel was torn to pieces, cut very cleanly with an unknown weapon. Beaming aboard some of the wreckage, Rokul analyzes it and sets the computer to work on identifying the unique energy signatures left behind by the weapons. Duzan, meanwhile, has an odd feeling and decides to check for chroniton particles, suspecting the time anomaly may be involved. She finds them, and secures the wreckage in a forcefield to try and prevent any contamination aboard the ship.
As Duzan returns to the bridge, the time anomaly suddenly appears nearby Empok Nor, and she collapses to the ground in seizures.
Act III
Duzan is beamed to sickbay, where Dr. Shuuri sedates her and begins to observe her condition. Commander Duzan begins to experience strange, disorienting hallucinations. She first recognizes that something is wrong when she awakens to see Dr. T'Koss, her old comrade from the USS Amphitrite. She heads to the bridge, but finds Captain Hanale Kaialani instead of Amelia Scoville, and Subcommander Sarenn instead of Dina Saurait. The ship is orbiting Cassandra, and the time anomaly is visible, but no one acknowledges it. Cassandra is described as long abandoned, and she beams down with an away team to investigate for possible Terran colonization. Arriving on the planet, she encounters Visol, who is as confused as she is, telling her she must leave this place.
Meanwhile, the Abyssinia is dealing with the fact that Empok Nor is now fully populated by Cardassians, who are upset with the Federation for violating the sanctity of their system. They are holding the survivors of the Vulcan ship hostage, as well. The station begins firing on the Abyssinia, but the shields more than stand up to the weak assault. Niera Tir works on a plan with Rokul to send a shuttlecraft behind the Abyssinia and prepare to beam the hostages up while protected by the shields of the larger vessel. Unfortunately, this plan is interrupted by the arrival of two Cardassian warships - the CDS Pedak and the CDS Khelram. A standoff ensues, with the Cardassians trying to seize on the situation as an opportunity to reclaim ownership of some territory.
Act IV
Negotiations commence with the Cardassians. Guls Kentim and Trelnok are invited aboard the Abyssinia to discuss the situation, and try to work out an arrangement. Due to some harsh questioning by Niera Tir, Kentim reveals that they have no real control over the commander of Empok Nor, Gul Jeddak, who has gone rogue as a result of his confusion over the time distortion. Eventually, a settlement is reached where the Federation sends over data on the anomaly in exchange for the assistance of these Guls in securing the release of the Vulcan hostages.
Meanwhile, Duzan finds herself aboard the USS Erebus, with only herself, Visol, and Captain Kalach on the bridge. Kalach asks her for her orders, and she commands them to fly into the anomaly. Visol, still confused as to what he is, describes the anomaly as himself, leading Duzan to suspect the anomaly may be alive. Before she can ask any questions, though, she awakens on the medibed aboard the Abyssinia. Shuuri suspects she may have a concussion or similar, and reveals scans that show she has a large number of new memory engrams forming but not being accessed. Duzan is able to get permission to head to the bridge and talk with Captain Kalach. As she revels what she knows, though, an unidentified vessel appears as the anomaly returns.
Act V
Rokul's scan on the wreckage concludes, revealing the energy signatures to be Iconian in origin, and the language emitting from the vessel is revealed as the same. He is able to adjust the shields to protect them from the Iconian weapons somewhat. The Cardassians open fire, and the Abyssinia engages the Iconians to assist. After a space battle in which the Pedak is almost destroyed, the Iconian ship explodes. The Cardassians are grateful for the Abyssinia's assistance and agree to the hostage's immediate release. The anomaly is closed again, and Empok Nor returns to normal as the two warships depart, not as enemies or friends. As they leave, Gul Kentim bids farewell and compliments the Abyssinia on its tactical prowess.
