Early Life
Growing up in an isolated colony of traders, Dina's family needed a strong moral code to continue trade with her people. Always cultivating the finest goods and products and taking care of others lead her family to success. Due to trade among many different species and cultures, Dina quickly became a master of tongues.
She has always lived her life to a trader's code of high caliber. When trading with others, looking those in the eye in negotiations gained their trust and friendship for future trade. Of course there were always those who tried to take advantage of her people. Through time and experience she learned patience and a sense of calm in any situation that arose. Conflict would never be an obstacle that she could not surmount. One day an elderly kelpien named Tanuki came to challenge her father to a duel for selling him an organic based compound protein shake powder. Her people had no idea that the compound came from the ground up remains of kelpiens. Instead of matching Tanuki's anger, Dina stayed calm and interjected that they would have never sold a customer their own kind intentionally. She was able to soothe the enraged Tanuki, and negotiated a deal where her father's life was spared in exchange for a lifetime supply of produce.
After this incident, she sought out destroy the company that was branding the kelpien remains as an organic based compound in their protein shakes. She realized the injustice that Tanuki felt and how she would feel if the same had happened to her own kind. It turns out the company was based out of a tellarite colony 1au away from a kelpien frontier settlement.
Aboard the USS Hermes
To reach the tellarite colony, Dina heard of a ship called the USS Hermes led by Commander Thomas Safer. She was able to talk her way on the ship showcasing her linguistic finesse and negotiating skills. As the ship reached the planet, Commander Safer disembarked to discuss with the Tellarite Admiral. Upon return and to Dina's horror, she saw Commander Safer holding a crate of the horrendous protein shake powder. She swiftly explained to the Commander what the powder contained. He laughed and retorted "Of course it does! We've been buying this from the tellarites for years!"
