Year 490 was a common year starting on Monday. This year marked the sixth year of the Pendragon Campaign, and the first year where Sir Oswulf participated in adventures.
Events
Lincoln
- The Knights of the Sword took part in the Battle of Lincoln, fighting alongside the King's army against the Saxon curs led by Octa and Eosa.
- The flanks were commanded by Dutchess Ygraine on the left flank, Uther at the center, and Duke Ulfius at the right flank.
- The battle was long, and hard-fought, but after several hours the Knights of the Sword saw a way to charge through to King Octa. They fought the Saxon and were able to defeat him and his bodyguards, claiming his magic axe as a trophy to present to Uther.
- After the battle, a feast was held and the Knights of the Sword were again called to tell the story of Excalibur's procurement by Merlin. They presented the axe as a gift to Uther.
- In the night following the feast, the knights encountered Prince Madoc in the hall, drunk and upset. Dame Runa comforted the man and listened to his anger at his father. Madoc revealed that Uther and Gorlois are longtime enemies, dating back to their exile in Brittany. He opined that Uther would try to steal Ygraine from Gorlois, just as he did with Madoc's mother.
Forest Perilous
- Sir Alaric and Sir Jaradan set out for the woods to try and locate Alaric's missing brother, Dragon, kidnapped over the winter by Saxon raiders.
- They were able to follow the tracks into the forest, where they found several magical and mundane obstacles including the impish Wittershins, and a pack of wild boars.
- In the course of their hunt, they came upon the Questing Beast. After the creature ran away, King Pellinore arrived and requested information on its whereabouts. Alaric provided the information and was rewarded with a relic.
- Locating the encampment, the two knights fought the Saxons and rescued the young squire, though they made an enemy in Caedwulf, the war chief of these Saxons.
Malahaut
- Heading north, the Knights of the Sword welcomed a new comrade, Sir Oswulf. Having previously been Dame Eithne's squire, he had recently been knighted by Earl Roderick.
- Many new faces were introduced to the Knights, including the Centurion King Heraut of Malahaut, King Lot of Lothian, and King Nentres of Garloth.
London
- Gorlois and Ygraine were kept as prisoners of courtesy all year, culminating in the Christmas Court.
- In the dead of night, the Knights of the Sword found the Cornish escaping with the aid of a mysterious woman in a white gown, and a sudden snowstorm that came from nothing and blocked the trail.
- Sir Oswulf tried to follow, but was nearly lost in the weather and was forced to turn back. Uther, furious, has promised there will be war for this insult to his hospitality.
