== Key Information ==

'''The Cassandrians''' are a warp-capable civilization from the [[Beta Cassiopeiae]] system. They have multiple colonies within their own star system, and have been a Federation Affiliate for the past eighteen months. They gained warp technology about seventy-five years ago, and have begun to reach beyond their own star system to explore the cosmos.

Prophets, a sub-species of Cassandrians, are said to have precognitive abilities. Prophets have been blamed for multiple upheavals throughout Cassandrian history, and their abilities are tightly regulated now. The treatment of Prophets is a key question in the Federation application process for the Cassandrian people, and the government has so far downplayed the situation. Several Federation diplomats have expressed concern that there may be legal discrimination taking place against the Prophets, who make up a significant minority of the population (about 1 in every 50,000,000 births results in a Prophet). It is unknown how reliable their prophecies are, but they have taken on religious significance in the past, and have been the subject of wars fought in the past between different nations desiring to control a Prophet of their own.
