* Dame Runa challenged the Saxons to a tournament of skills, 3 challengers from each group.
* Duke Ulfius revealed that he had pledged allegiance to Sussex.

* Dame Eithne worked as a coach of sorts, helping the Salisbury knights to strategize.
* Dame Runa, Sir Oswulf, and Sir Jaradan all participated.
* Oswulf was defeated by the Giant of Wessex, a man a full head taller than anyone else attending and too large to fit on a horse.
* Dame Runa defeated the giant and won the tournament for Salisbury, saving the county from having to pay dues to any Saxons for the year.

* Aescwine came to Salisbury to demand tribute, but was not the only visitor. King [[Cerdic]] of Wessex came personally, bringing the decapitated head of [[Caedwulf]] as a gift of sorts. Cerdic revealed himself to be the lost son of Vortigern, and that his heritage is half Cymric and half Saxon. He believes this makes him the obvious choice to be the next High King, and wants the support of Countess Ellen to give him legitimacy.

* Countess Ellen, at the advice of her knights, did not pay tribute to Essex this year. As a result, the Saxons moved their armies against Salisbury. Silchester did not intervene, and allowed the Saxons passage.

Uther was a man of great ambition, and terrible flaws. Strong, cunning, and generous to those who prove themselves worthy, Uther engendered much loyalty in many of his vassals. Still, his jealousy, lust, and foul temper threatened to undo all his great works. Uther was a somewhat lackluster Christian, and often consulted with [[Merlin]], who acted as one of the king's chief advisors until Uther exiled the magician following the disappearance of his unnamed son.

== Important Deeds of Note ==

In [[452]] Uther sired his bastard son, [[Madoc|Madoc ap Uther]]. Madoc was legitimized in [[486]], becoming the legal heir of King Uther.

Uther kept [[Gorlois]] and [[Ygraine]] prisoners of courtesy in the year [[490]], refusing to allow them to leave his hospitality. When they finally escaped, Uther promised there would be war for this transgression.

In [[491]], Uther declared war on Gorlois. After the death of the Duke, King Uther married his widow, Ygraine, who is about to give Uther a child. This child will be heir to the throne, following the death of Madoc.

In [[492]], the child was stolen away by Merlin. Merlin has now been exiled from the realm.

Uther has fallen gravely ill as of [[493]], and has stepped back from many duties as a result of his sickness.

Tragically, in [[495]], King Uther was killed under suspicious circumstances at the infamous Feast of St. Albans. He was among those poisoned by the wine, but also sustained stab wounds which were discovered on his corpse.

Uther was buried at Stonehenge, alongside his brother and son.

Earl Roderick was a fair, just man who understood his place in the order of Logres and strove to care for his people as best he could. Roderick was well-loved by his subject and knights, and built a strong reputation. Roderick was also a very intelligent, deductive man. Skilled at the art of politics, Roderick always managed to consistently back the right horse. He was said to have a keen eye for talent, and rewarded his most loyal - and useful - subjects accordingly. As a man with the ear of Uther Pendragon himself, impressing Earl Roderick was most advantageous to young knights who wished to climb the social ladder in Logres.

== Important Deeds of Note ==

In the Spring of [[485]] Earl Roderick knighted Dame [[Runa]], Dame [[Eithne]], and Sir [[Alaric]] as part of an effort to shore up Salisbury's forces for the Battle of [[Mearcred Creek]].

Earl Roderick gave the young Knights of the Sword a long leash in choosing their tasks for the year starting in [[487]], allowing them do decide what adventures they would partake in each year.

In 487, Roderick took the Knights to [[Lincoln]], as part of an envoy to secure Duke [[Corneus]] and his troops for the upcoming wars King [[Uther]] had planned. Corneus was not at home when they arrived, and Earl Roderick assisted the Knights in preventing the sacking of Lincoln by convincing Uther to wait for the Duke's arrival.

In 493, the Earl and his knights went to [[Malahaut]] to secure an alliance. While there, they discovered a plot against Uther and were able to escape to warn Logres of the betrayal of the northern kings.

Tragically, Earl Roderick was among the nobles slain at the Feast of St. Albans in 495.

==== St. Albans ====
* King [[Uther]], at least able to stand but not able to fight, led troops north to defeat the Saxons under King Octa, recently escaped from prison.
* Upon sighting the city of St. Albans, peasants came out of hiding to inform the assembled armies that the city had just been taken by Saxons, and that they were fleeing for their lives.
* Duke [[Ulfius]] ordered a charge of his mounted troops, as the city gates were still open, giving the army the best chance to take the city back quickly and attack the Saxons. This was a trap, however, and the Knights of the Sword barely managed to avoid being taken by surprise.
* Saxon archers attacked, and Ulfius was badly injured. The Knights of the Sword managed to save Ulfius and pull him back toward the main lines, but a large number of knights were killed in the hail of arrows.
* A battle ensued, and the Knights of the Sword were almost all knocked injured severely in the combat. Of note, the chieftain [[Caedwulf]] appeared and defeated Sir [[Alaric]] in combat, nearly killing the good knight.
* The losses were high on both sides, but the Saxons were finally defeated, but at great cost to the armies of Logres.

==== The Feast ====
* That night, as chirurgery was performed on Sir Alaric and Sir [[Oswulf]], a great feast was held. Uther and [[Ygraine]] attended, along with most of the great nobles.
* A separate, but no less lavish, feast was held for the household knights and lesser nobles, which was attended by Dame [[Eithne]]. In the midst of the night, however, Eithne was disturbed by screams and horrifying smells.
* Investigating, Eithne and [[Runa]] discovered that the nobles were vomiting blood, turning purple, and dying. No medical aid could help them, the poison acted too quickly. Earl [[Roderick]] was among the dead, leaving Salisbury with no ruler.
* Uther, who was killed along with the others, also had a stab wound that Eithne discovered.

Syagrius is considered snobbish and aloof by most British knights and nobles, as he believes that the former subjects of Rome still owe allegiance to the Emperor and should provide forces to beat back the barbarian hordes attacking Gaul.

== Important Deeds of Note ==

In [[486]], Syagrius arrived in [[Logres]] to ask for assistance, petitioning King [[Uther]] to send troops to fight the Frankish invasion on the continent. Uther was courteous, but dismissive as the Saxon hordes were taking too much of his resources to commit to a war far from home. Syagrius eventually left empty-handed, and faced significant defeats that summer.

Finally, in [[488]], Syagrius successfully petitioned King Uther for military aid. Half the army of Logres, under the command of Prince [[Madoc]], was sent to the continent to fight Claudas and his Franks. They successfully took the city of Bayeux from Frankish control, but Madoc betrayed the Praetor and abandoned his forces to return to Logres with his troops rather than attacking Claudas afterwards. Soissons was defeated by the Franks, who took control of the entire region, giving birth to the new Kingdom of Francia.

By [[494]], Syagrius had become a mercenary leader and had made his way to Logres, attacking its people and looking for revenge. He was unaware of the death of Madoc, and was attempting to draw his rival out in order to gain vengeance. Instead, he was defeated by the Knights of the Sword and imprisoned by Uther.

* Following court, the Knights of the Sword went to hunt the mercenaries that had been plaguing the kingdom. The mercenaries were supposedly led by a group of Roman soldiers.
* Upon locating the brigands, a battle ensued. It was discovered that the leader of the group was none other than [[Syagrius]], the former Praetor that [[Madoc]] had betrayed.
* Sir [[Oswulf]] fought the Praetor in single combat, and laid him low. Afterwards, the Praetor was given as a prisoner to [[Uther]] and his court.

* Court this year was held at Silchester, and Earl Roderick and his knights were given special assurances that there would be no further trouble. The Levcomagus knights, thoroughly embarrassed by the events of the previous year, were ordered to leave things be.
* Dame [[Runa]]'s sister went missing over winter, and a group of knights were sent to discover her fate.
* King [[Uther]] was barely in attendance, and obviously quite ill. No royal proclamations were made.
* In the midst of the feast, a messenger brought the news that the Saxon kings [[Octa]] and [[Eosa]] had escaped from London and made their way back north.
* Earl Roderick was ordered to go to Malahaut to secure an alliance against the Saxons. The Knights of the Sword agreed to accompany him.

* Arriving at Malahaut, King [[Heraut]] was cold and distant. Eventually, the knights noticed others in attendance from Lothian and other northern kingdoms.
* Investigating further, they discovered a secret meeting where Heraut was meeting with [[Lot]] of Lothian and other northerners, as well as Saxon representatives to plot against Uther.
* The knights made a quick retreat, and left Malahaut and his newfound friends none the wiser about their escape, stealing a boat and making their way west along the river before heading back south through the mountains.
* They were nearly ambushed by Saxons nearby a brook, but the brook was more dangerous than they realized at it swallowed their enemies violently and smashed them against rocks. This was their first time seeing the Bolton Strid, possibly the most dangerous river in the world.

In [[486]], Merlin encountered the Knights of Salisbury for the first time. The young knights were finishing up an uneventful patrol around [[Locations (Pendragon)#Salisbury|Salisbury]] when they were confronted by an old goat herd commanding them to go fetch his prized goat from on top of a hill. When the knights went off in search, they found a goat the size of a young bull which was quickly snatched by a three-eyed giant. Slaying the giant, the elderly man revealed himself to be Merlin himself, who led the knights into the forest. Eventually the knights found themselves transported into the Otherworld, where they were attacked by a Nuckelavee. Defeating this enemy, the knights watched as Merlin took a small boat out to the center of the lake and was presented with Excalibur by the Lady of the Lake herself. Merlin thanked the knights for their protection and bade them farewell shortly after this incident.

In [[492]], Merlin again enlisted the assistance of the Knights of the Sword, this time by tricking them into covering his escape after his theft of the unnamed infant son of Queen [[Ygraine]]. Merlin was declared an exile for his actions.

* After disappearing for a few hours, Merlin reappeared and told them to "delay them" before leaving. He was carrying something under his cloak.
* A Silchester knight and two other knights appeared and the Knights of the Sword set upon them in an ambush, Sir Oswulf nearly killing the Silchesterian in one blow.
* Suddenly, Sir [[Brastias]] arrived and told them to stand down, that Merlin had taken the newborn child of Queen [[Ygraine]].
* The Knights of the Sword were put on trial for treason at the accusation of Brastias, but were found not guilty. Merlin was found to have ensorcelled the knights and was exiled.
* Dame [[Elad]] alerted the newly freed knights that Silchester had been raiding Salisbury, seemingly gearing up for an invasion under the cover of their status as potential traitors.

* Rushing home, the knights headed for Newton Tony, where the border with Silchester was nearest, and began to mount a defense.
* Collecting soldiers and knights from their own levys, they waited at the forest edge for Silchester's scouts. They routed the scouts, but were unable to prevent them heading back into the forest.
* Eventually, horns sounded and a large warband emerged, in disguise as common brigands or highwaymen.
* A skirmish ensued, and Sir Oswulf and Sir Alaric both lost their minds to their passions briefly. They ran into the forest, screaming about Duke [[Ulfius]] and planning to challenge him to combat.
* Eventually, Sir [[Blains]] was captured and the battle was won. Earl [[Roderick]] was very pleased to be able to ransom the prisoners back, taking special delight in Blains's status as his prisoner.

Brastias has dedicated his life to serving the king, and more than once has been willing to lay down his life to protect Uther. Sir Brastias has personally killed five separate assassins, stopped three poisoning attempts, and is rumored to have sucked the venom of a snake from Uther's ankle.

In [[491]], Sir Brastias told the Knights of the Sword the story of how Earl [[Roderick]] married Countess [[Ellen]] against the wishes of her elder brother, Duke [[Ulfius]] and how Silchester was most likely responsible for Dame [[Runa]]'s missing cousin and the scurrilous rumors against Sir [[Alaric]]. Later that year, he dealt the fatal blow to Duke [[Gorlois]] at the Battle of Terrabil.

* The Knights of the Sword attended court, and attempted to gather information about the various misdeeds of winter - a missing family member, and scurrilous rumors.
* Sir [[Lycus]] was challenged by Sir [[Alaric]] to a duel after repeating - and spreading - the vicious rumors.
* Sir [[Brastias]] provided information about the relationship between Salisbury and Silchester, and revealed that Countess [[Ellen]] is the sister of Duke [[Ulfius]], who promised her to his man Sir [[Blains]], Steward of Levcomagus. When she instead married [[Roderick]], this led to a bitter feud between the two nobles.

==== Silchester ====
* The Knights gathered information about Silchester raiding parties invading Salisbury, and set up an ambush to catch them in the act.
* After waiting for some time, they were able to catch a group of knights of Silchester and took them prisoner. Led by Blains's own brother, Sir [[Rhisiart]], the Salisbury knights were able to exchange them for the prisoners kept in Silchester.

==== Terrabil ====
* The Knights of the Sword joined Madoc's forces to siege the castle Terrabil and cut [[Gorlois]] off from his fortifications at Tintagel.
* Gorlois decided to attack at night, a cowardly and dishonorable tactic which was nevertheless effective.
* Gorlois killed Madoc, but Madoc disabled his sword and allowed the Salisbury knights to slaughter the Duke. Sir Brastias dealt the mortal blow.
* With the battle over, Tintagel fell by the next morning and Gorlois's dead body was displayed for his people.

==== Stonehenge and the Forest Perilous ====
* Madoc's funeral was held a few days later, buried alongside his uncle at Stonehenge.
* The Knights of the Sword followed a map Madoc had given Runa on his deathbed. Taking them to the borders of the Forest Perilous, they found a small cabin and the wife and child of Madoc.
* Runa agreed to keep them safe, treating Madoc's daughter as her ward.

=== Tintagel ===
* Uther and Ygraine were married a couple months after the death of Gorlois, and she was visibly pregnant by the end of the year.
