Year 487 was a common year starting on Thursday. This year marked the third year of the Pendragon Campaign.

Events

Lincoln

  • Alaric, Eithne, and Runa were given the ability to decide their course of action for the year, between joining Prince Madoc on naval raids along the coast, or accompanying Uther to Lincoln.
  • The Knights of the Sword decided to go with Uther as part of a diplomatic mission to secure the loyalty of Duke Corneus of Lindsey.
  • They traveled with Earl Roderick, Duke Ulfius, and King Uther himself. Once they arrived, Corneus was nowhere to be found.
  • Uther suggested he might sack the city if Lindsey did not arrive, and the Knights settled in with their host knights, training in combat and feasting with the older warriors.
  • Eventually, an investigation found that Corneus had not been successfully contacted, and may be unreachable. The Knights set off to avoid a tragedy by finding him, asking Earl Roderick to buy some time for them to reach the Duke.

The Borderlands

  • Eithne was able to track Corneus's troops, finding that they had made for Malahaut, but then looped back along the border towards the forests and the Saxon lands to the northwest.
  • Determining that half of Lindsey's knights had potentially been slain, they made haste. Runa set the pace, displaying incredible skills at riding and scouting ahead.
  • They reached Corneus after 2 days' travel, finding him and his troops involved in a skirmish against overwhelming numbers of Saxon warriors.
  • The Knights charged down the hill into the rear of the Saxon positions, taking them by complete surprise and breaking the lines of the brutes. This rallied the forces of Lindsey, and they began to turn the tide almost immediately.
  • The Saxons were slain quite handily, and Duke Corneus was saved. In thanks, loot was provided to the Knights, including a gold torc from the neck of the Saxon chieftain which was bequeathed to Runa, who fought him alongside Corneus himself.

Lincoln

  • Corneus returned to Lincoln with his warband and the Knights, greeting Uther hesitantly.
  • A feast was held, and the Knights again performed the Ballad of Sword Lake, their earlier composition which has become quite the local hit in Logres.
  • Uther stopped them before the end, bidding Merlin come forward and tell more about the history of Excalibur. The sorcerer did so, and then Uther drew the sword, revealing it to all in attendance.
  • Lindsey, enchanted by the power of the sword, submitted and pledged his undying loyalty to Uther.
