Hanale Kaialani
Captain Hanale Kaialani (Born 2110) is a Starfleet Officer currently serving as the Commanding Officer of the USS Erebus, NCC-121, under the authority of the United Earth Government. His crew includes officers such as Subcommander Sarenn, Lieutenant Ozoria Zh'Chysrel, and Lieutenant Junior Grade Liamed Duzan.

Early Life
Born in Honolulu to a military family, Hanale's family served on board some of the earliest starships. Hanale himself was born almost 50 years following the successful test of Zephram Cochrane's warp drive, and first contact with the Vulcans. Hanale has thirteen family members of second cousin or closer serving aboard Starfleet vessels in space around Earth or further, including a nephew who died in service aboard the USS Enterprise (NX-01). Hanale's mother is of Native Hawaiian and Samoan ancestry, while his father had family of Afro-Carribean and Native Hawaiian descent. His family history and cultural ties are deeply important to him, and Hanale has traditional Samoan tattoos covering his left-hand shoulder, chest, and arm.
In his youth, Hanale was a champion wrestler, even being offered a spot on the Olympic wrestling team in 2130, which he turned down to attend Starfleet Academy. To this day, physical fitness and health are of the utmost importance to Captain Kaialani. Towering at 6'4", with a powerful build, he is often referred to as the strongest man in Starfleet. He adheres to a strict diet and workout regimen when his command duties allow him.
Career
Hanale Kaialani focused on the Command track in the Academy, but also studied Security protocols. Captain Kaialani graduated Starfleet Academy with honors in 2134, serving as a Security officer aboard the USS Zanzibar for several years. Working his way up through the ranks, a turning point came for him while acting as Chief of Security aboard the USS Gutenberg. A group of Nausicaan raiders found their way into the Sol system and attacked the vessel, assuming it would be easy prey. The commanding officer and most of the bridge crew were killed or captured, but then-Lieutenant Kaialani fought off three Nausicaan pirates by ambushing them in the corridors, luring them into traps and forcing them into submission. Taking command of the ship, he bluffed the Nausicaan raiding vessel into thinking that he was one of their own troops in order to learn their full plan. The pirates intended to capture the ship, sell the crew into slavery, and use the Gutenberg to lure other Earth ships back to the hidden Nausicaan vessel to repeat the process. Ordering the crew left conscious to send the small Nausicaan shuttle back to the main ship Lt. Kaialani planted a set of improvised bombs on board, destroying the raiding party completely and allowing the Gutenberg to limp home safely.
Hanale served on a series of different ships exploring near-Earth space, but in the early days of Starfleet there were very few opportunities to venture beyond the solar system - and none to explore deep space. By the time that the NX-01 launched in 2151, Captain Kaialani was in charge of a survey vessel, the USS Osaka, and privately groused at the fact that he would not be up for consideration of service - much less command - aboard the Enterprise.
When the Xindi Weapon attacked Earth, Captain Kaialani was commanding the Osaka a system away in the Centauri system. He was recalled and reassigned to Starfleet headquarters in San Francisco to operate as a part of The New World Project, a thinktank of scientists, politicians, and Starfleet officers committed to ensuring the continuation of the human race. Due to his extensive career in space, and his long family history of service, Hanale was chosen to put together a team to begin seeking out new worlds for potential colonization, and the expansion of Earth control into nearby systems. Working closely with the Andorians, Tellarites, and Vulcans, the New World Project was seen as a way to ensure the continuation of the human species in the case of the destruction of Earth. This goal was no longer theoretical, but was instead seen as an essential way to avoid the most serious existential threat that humanity had yet faced.
Captain Hanale was provided with the USS Erebus, a refit of the Neptune class survey vessel with upgraded sensors and defensive systems, along with new warp engines based off of the NX-01's Warp 5 drive. Accompanying him are representatives of the Vulcan and Andorian governments, making this mission a true test-case for the formation of the United Federation of Planets, rumored to be forming within the decade.
