Name: | USS Amphitrite (NCC-1932) |
Laid down: | 3 February 2270 |
Launched: | 16 June 2271 |
The USS Abyssinia, NCC-17239, is a 24th century starship (Nebula Class) operated by Starfleet under the authority of the United Federation of Planets. The current captain of the Abyssinia is J'Sepp Kalach, and the ship is one of the three main starships of Star Trek: Timequake. In service for nearly a decade as a general explorer and diplomatic envoy, the Abyssinia has recently undergone a major refit in order to prepare the ship for the task of defending Federation space near Deep Space Nine from potential Klingon, Cardassian, and Dominion threats. Armed with the latest offensive and defensive technology, the ship is intended as a bulwark against any and all threats to Federation interests in the area.

Early History
The Nebula Class spaceframe was created at the same time as its sister class, the Galaxy Class. Both ships were created to be capital ships and take on multiform missions ranging from tactical defense or search and rescue, all the way to diplomatic envoys and scientific surveys. Up to 9,800 people can be safely evacuated in an emergency situation from a Nebula, making the Abyssinia capable of transporting massive numbers of personnel as well as civilians. In the past year, the diplomatic situation between the Federation and several neighboring powers has dramatically soured. As a result, the Abyssinia was recalled from service to undergo a months-long refit and restaffing, including the addition of the new prototype quantum torpedoes.
Captain Kalach's Mission
Captain Kalach oversaw the refit of the Abyssinia, having been assigned to the vessel not long after returning from an extended period of time out of contact with the federation. His extremely methodical nature and reputation for correctly intuiting the intentions of those around him made him a prime candidate for patrolling the border with the Cardassians. Many threats have cropped up in that area over the past several years, and it is expected to be a tactical hotspot over the next several years. Seasoned combatants and shrewd tacticians will be needed to preserve Federation interests in the area and defend allies against potential incursions.
As a fully staffed and outfitted capital ship, the Abyssinia is the de facto command carrier of the region, and is considered a lynchpin of Starfleet, especially in the wake of the destruction of the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701 D, earlier in 2371. While Captain Picard and his crew wait for new assignments they leave a wide space to be filled by other ships, and the Abyssinia is considered one of the most able in the fleet to do so.
The refit and resupply of the Abyssinia was wrapped up at Deep Space Nine, with Chief Miles O'Brien assisting with the final preparations himself. Benjamin Sisko debrief Captain Kalach and much of the senior staff, providing valuable personal insights into the volatile political situation in the region - the type of insights that you won't read in an official report.
Current Crew
The USS Abyssinia has a crew compliment of 870. Under normal circumstances, an additional 130+ civilians would also be present on the vessel (including spouses and children of the officers), but due to the nature of the Abyssinia's mission those civilians are staying aboard Deep Space Nine for the time being, or have departed for their planetary homes until the political situation has stabilized. Some notable crewmembers are listed below.
